Bubbling Up

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”  John 4:13-14

I've been wanting to write about these verses and what I felt Holy Spirit was telling me, but that's probably been 5 months or so ago. I pray I can remember all that I felt I wanted/needed to write about.

The words "spring of water welling up" really resonated with me. We've always heard about God pouring out His love or His grace or His                      (fill in the blank), but reading this made me realize that what I'm really wanting is for His love or grace or                          to be coming forth out of me, to bubble up from the bottom, so that it pushes everything that is not of Him out of me and then all that is flowing from this vessel is only Him.

I picture a teacup with a kettle pouring the liquid into the cup. That's what I think most of us envision when we ask the Lord to fill us up. But now, instead of this picture, I see a cup that is full and overflowing (without a kettle) because it is welling up from the bottom. From an everflowing source, Father God Himself.

If the source of the liquid (His love, grace, etc.) is coming up from the bottom, then there is no way for the junk of life to settle in and pollute what's in the cup (our life).

Father, may You be the source of all that is good in me, and may it be bubbling up from the bottom and spilling out over the edges of me.
